Rays offer support for Chris Archer in his feud with Astros mascot

Baseball feuds are nothing new, but the rift between Rays pitcher Chris Archer and the Astros mascot reached a new level on Monday.

Archer presented Orbit a “Declaration of Unfriendliness” before Monday’s game at Minute Maid Park. Archer referred to it as a “declaration of war,” and Orbit responded by challenging Archer to a fight. That was stopped when outfielder Steve Souza stepped in to separate the two.

Orbit then pulled out the piece of paper handed to him by Archer and showed the “declaration” to the camera. It said Orbit’s “general mischief and rascality have been among Orbit’s repeated trespasses.”

The Rays responded by lending their full support behind Archer, saying the team would give the 28-year-old North Carolina native “all the water balloons and silly string he requires” to combat Orbit.
